The newest addition to the Disney Princess franchise (and other upcoming Disney films) – Meet Moana!

Hello everyone! I decided to write up this short post (about 4 months ago now I might add) because I got a little excited that there is going to be a new Disney Princess joining the princess franchise, and since I have been writing a lot about Disney Princesses lately I thought it would be fitting to finally post this post! Meet Moana!moanaMoana Waialiki is a young teenage girl who sets out on a mission to prove her navigational skills by sailing across the South Pacific to complete her ancestors’ unfinished quest; joined by the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voiced by Dwayne Johnson – woo hoo!), together they set out to explore the open ocean.moana-04-800So, other than that there isn’t much known about the plotline of the film though I did read somewhere that she is searching for a fabled island. I’m not sure what nationality she is either as it just states that she lives somewhere in the South Pacific, and there are SO many islands in the South Pacific – Tahiti, Rarotonga, Bora Bora, Easter Island, Maui, Mo’orea, Hawaii, Upolu, the list goes on! My guess is that she is from one of the Polynesian islands which includes most of the above.moana0001She will be joining the thirteen official Disney princesses in the princess franchise as the 14th princess; I don’t know how this will fit into the criteria needed to become an official princesses but I’m guessing Disney are certain that this film and character will be a big enough hit in both film and merchandise for her to surpass the test of becoming an official princess! OT but I really think Moana looks a little like Rapunzel here (very similar facial design despite being ethnically different).MV5BMTg0MTA0NzcxNl5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTgwNTE2Mzg5NjE@__V1_One thing that I would like to point out, which I think is really cool, is that Adriana Caselotti (Snow White), Irene Bedard (Pocahontas) and Anika Noni Rose (Tiana), along with Auli’i Cravalho who will be the voice of Moana, actually look like the princess they voiced! Auli’i is a native Hawaiian 14-year-old girl and she’s beautiful! I really like that Disney are branching out across the world to find voice actors that can closely represent their characters and are more ethnically diverse. Disney have actually recognised that the majority of their princesses are white (including Ariel even though she’s a mermaid); Mulan, Tiana, Jasmine and Pocahontas are the only ones who aren’t, and Disney are striving to change that which we will apparently notice in their upcoming films.1361133511-url-oI am really excited to watch this movie which is due to be released November 2016; I’ve always wanted to visit the South Pacific, definitely a part of the world that I will visit one day! I thoroughly enjoyed Lilo and Stitch which was based in Hawaii, so I’m really looking forward to watching another island based film!disney_s_schedule_for_2015___2017_by_touchboyj_hero-d8qr3kcSo whilst a lot of people are excited for the upcoming film Finding Dory which will be released this June, I will be excited for Moana! You’ll also be pleased to know that Disney are looking to also release Beauty and the Beast, and a new Star Wars, Toy Story 4 and Pirates of the Carribbean in 2017!tumblr_nvv5wkHDaH1s6lnnho3_250tumblr_nvv5wkHDaH1s6lnnho4_250To end this post, here are some gifs of Auli’i’s reaction when she found out that she was going to be the voice of Moana. Thanks for reading, until next time~♥
